Batch the hero as Pittsburgh open NFL season with victory
Superbowl Champions the Pittsburgh Steelers opened the NFL season where they left off with a 28-17 defeat of the Miami Dolphins.
Hero of the day was Charlie Batch whose desperately late 87-yead touchdown sealed the Miami Dolphins’ fate. The in-form Batch totalled 15 passes for 209 yards and took the plaudits for three touchdowns.
Batch was only in the starting line-up because quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was rushed to hospital on Sunday to remove his appendix. The injury-prone Roethlisberger had been under the knife back in June after a motorbike crash left him with multiple fractures to his face.
