Trent Green, quarterback for Kansas City, was knocked unconscious during his team’s defeat to the Bengals in their NFL Week One match.

By the time the Chiefs 23-10 defeat to Cincinnati was confirmed Green was on his way to hospital with “severe head trauma.”

The damage was done by a third quarter clash when Robert Geathers’ shoulder charge sent Green to the ground. Green’s head hit the ground hard.

Carl Petersen, the Chiefs boss, said: "It was severe head trauma, but Green could feel his arms and legs OK."

Green, 36, has regained consciousness and tests suggest no permanent damage was done.
