3M Open 2022 Golf Betting Odds Guide, Predictions, Preview & Picks: Maverick Wager

Maverick McNealyWith the fourth and final Major of the year now consigned to the history books, attention starts to focus on the FedEx Cup. It’s all about squeezing into the playoffs between now and the end of an eventful PGA Tour season. The 3M Open won’t match the drama of St Andrews last week. It tends to feature a weakened field but it has led to notable breakthrough wins for some impressive young players.

The 2022 tournament is just the fourth edition of the 3M Open so let’s see what the sportsbooks make of this developing competition before we make your betting predictions and picks for this golf tournament preview.

Tony Finau slots in as favorite in the outright winner market and he can be claimed at industry best odds of 14/1. Finau’s power hitting may well be suited to this course with distance an issue in places.

There’s more to Tony’s game than pure power and his putting has shown some serious improvement this season. He’s also made the cut in all three appearances in this event and has a best of a tie for third in 2020.

Behind the market leader, Adam Hadwin and Hideki Matsuyama can both be found at 18/1. Hadwin is getting the most attention due to an excellent record at the 3M Open. In two previous appearances he has a tie for sixth and a best of a solo fourth in 2019.

The rest are led by Sungjae Im and Maverick McNealy who are both available at 20/1. McNealy will be targeting some revenge after starting the final round in second place before carding a disappointing 73 last year. Im tied for 15th place here in 2019 but is struggling for consistent form as he comes into Thursday.

Next up are Sahith Theegala, Davis Riley and Cameron Davis who can all be backed at a top price of 25/1. Davis and Riley have solid form and it is maybe surprising that they don’t carry shorter odds.

Also included in the chasing pack are Cameron Tringale at 28/1, plus Brendan Steele, J.T. Poston, Adam Long and Chez Reavie who are all at 33/1 in places. Poston may have missed the cut at The Open but a win in the US at the John Deere should put him in good shape.

There is some quality in the outside bunch and it includes Adam Svensson who leads the Power Rankings going into Thursday’s first tee time. His record isn’t stunning, but it includes four top 25 finishes in his last four starts and Svensson is listed at a best of 45/1.

Also included are two of the three former 3M Open Champions. Cameron Champ is quoted at 66/1 and he is defending his title while Michael Thompson, the 2020 winner, is further back at 80/1.

There are many more interesting names in this final section. Others that you may want to consider include Ryan Palmer at 50/1, Brendon Todd at 55/1, Jason Day at 60.1, Dylan Frittelli at 66/1, Rickie Fowler at 66/1, Lucas Glover at 80/1 and Garrick Higgo at 125/1.

The top players may be missing but there is some good depth to this 3M Open field so what will it take to win the 2022 edition?

Our Preview’s 3M Open Predictions, Picks & Course & Betting Trends

The 3M Open took over from the 3M Championship, which was an event on the PGA Champions Tour for Seniors. The first edition was held in 2019 and was won by Matthew Wolff by one shot from Bryson DeChambeau and Collin Morikawa.

Since Wolff’s opening victory, the next two 3M trophies were claimed by Michael Thompson and Cameron Champ.

TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota has been the permanent home for this tournament since its inception. It’s a par 71 but there is some serious length as the course measures in excess of 7,400 yards. Distance from the tee can certainly be a benefit on some of these holes and that’s one of the reasons why Tony Finau has been installed as the clear favorite.

After some seriously low scoring in the first two editions, the 2021 tournament rose to show a scoring average of 70.44. It was tough for the field to hit greens in regulation so GIR could certainly be a factor in 2022.

Rough has been lengthened in places while tiny greens will be fast once again with measurements up to 12.5 on the Stimpmeter.

Recently, we had looked to Maverick McNealy and, while he hasn’t converted for us just yet, he has the game to succeed on this course and in this weaker field. He has returned two top ten finishes in his last three starts while his worst result in that time was a tie for 16th.

Our main betting predictions is McNealy to win the 2022 renewal of the 3M Open. Plus this preview will add three additional top 10 finish picks which will hopefully all add up to a profitable four days. So our picks against the stateside sports betting outlets are:

  • Maverick McNealy to win @ +2200 (22/1) with Bovada, EveryGame or BetOnline.
  • Top 10 Finish Betting Picks (odds from BetOnline who are best on all these players): McNealy (+250), J.T. Poston (+400), Cameron Champ (+600) & Brendan Steele (+400).
