Chelsea vs Manchester City Preview, Predictions, Betting Odds Guide, Picks: Can CFC Threaten In-Form MCFC?

Jack GrealishFollowing another dramatic weekend of Premier League football, Manchester City reclaimed their place at the top of the table. With City easing past Bournemouth on Saturday, Chelsea inflicted a 4-1 defeat on previous EPL leaders Tottenham Hotspur.

On Sunday, Chelsea and Manchester City meet at Stamford Bridge in a 4.30pm kick off local time (11.30am ET). This is usually a close encounter between two top sides, but will Man City’s fast start see them claim the points, or will Chelsea gain momentum following that big win over their London rivals? Read on to find out with our full CFC vs MCFC preview with predictions and betting picks.

Manchester City go into this game as favorites and bettors can currently claim best industry odds of 4/5 on the away win. The draw is next at a general 13/5, with victory for Chelsea available at 15/4.

MCFC arrive in West London on top of the EPL table with 27 points from their opening 11 matches. After a dip when the team lost back-to-back games to Wolves and Arsenal, Pep Guardiola’s men have since won five straight games across the Premier League and Champions League.

Chelsea are further back in tenth place with 15 points from 11 matches. The form guide shows that Mauricio Pochettino’s men have taken ten points from their last six, so there is some improvement, and that victory over Spurs may give the Blues added confidence.

Any game that Erling Haaland plays in will see the Norwegian placed at the top of the first goalscorer market. The striker already has 11 league goals in 11 matches this season and he is available at best industry odds of 3/1 to find the net first.

Man City’s back up striker Julian Alvarez is next at 11/2 while Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson, who scored a hat trick in the win over Spurs, is at 8/1.

Behind the main strikers, we always like to look for some potential value, and one player that interests us is Cole Palmer. Chelsea signed the midfielder from Manchester City in the summer, and he has already scored three times in eight league games. He is the designated penalty taker and is listed at 12/1 for the first goal. For Manchester City, Jack Grealish can be a threat from anywhere within shooting distance, and he’s on offer at 11/1.

Away from player betting, Both Teams to Score is quoted this time at 8/11. If you think that either, or both teams will draw a blank on Sunday, the ‘no’ option on BTTS can be backed at a top price of 23/20.

In the Total Goals markets, a stake on Over 2.5 goals would currently bring odds of 3/4 with some of the United States’ sportsbooks. By pushing that up one stage to Over 3.5, we can take that figure to 2/1. Anyone who thinks that this will be a quiet encounter could opt to take Under 2.5 goals at evens (1/1).

Some Correct Score suggestions wind up this section. The match odds suggest a comfortable win for Manchester City, so there may be some interest in Chelsea 1 City 3 at best odds of 14/1. A 2-1 win for Chelsea is quoted at a top price of 16/1, while the 1-1 draw can be claimed at a best of 13/2.

Our Preview’s CFC vs MCFC Predictions & Betting Picks Verdict

Had this game been played last weekend, it would have been difficult to see anything other than a Manchester City win. Chelsea has been languishing in lower mid-table and have suffered a string of poor results, including defeats to Brentford and Nottingham Forest since the start of the season.

That win over Spurs will have given the team a lift, but we should put it into context. Tottenham went down to nine men, and only fully capitulated in second half injury time. Anything could happen on Sunday afternoon but, if we’re looking for consistency as an indicator, a Man City win is the logical outcome.

If you’re not tempted by the odds on the away win, the side markets hold some alternatives. Chelsea haven’t been prolific scorers and, prior to Monday night, the Blues had scored just 13 times in ten League games. We’ll therefore start our betting predictions with Both Teams Not to Score. Manchester City to win to Nil is another option but our pick covers us if City draw a blank.

Our second pick is for Phil Foden to score at any time in the game. He has featured in all of MCFC’s 11 league games this season, and generally averages around a goal every three matches. He is due a contribution and the odds are relatively high for a player who is a constant threat to goal. So these are our betting picks for this EPL matchup preview:

  • Both Teams to Score: Bet ‘No’ at best odds of +100 (evens) with BetOnline.
  • Phil Foden to Score at Any Time at +350 (7/2) and again these biggest odds are with BetOnline.
