The CJ Cup Byron Nelson 2024 Golf Odds Guide, Preview, Predictions, Betting Picks

Jordan SpiethFollowing a brief diversion into team golf, the PGA Tour returns with regular tournament play. This week’s CJ Cup Byron Nelson 2024 has a competitive field heading down to the TPC Craig Ranch course in McKinney, Texas. Last year’s champion Jason Day is back to defend his title while K.H. Lee, who went back-to-back in 2021 and 2022, is also in contention.

Last week at the Zurich Classic we claimed a top 10 finish return as the team of Nick Taylor and Adam Hadwin delivered. Let’s see if we can keep a good run going as we return to conventional tournament golf with this CJ Cup Byron Nelson preview, predictions and betting picks article.

Jordan Spieth is the highest ranked golfer this week, and he leads the way at best industry odds of 16/1 for the outright win with the USA betting firms. Spieth made his tournament debut here as a 16-year-old in 2010 and he was a runner-up behind Lee two years ago.

Si Woo Kim and Jason Day slot in as joint second favorites at 18/1. Day’s two wins in this event span 13 years from 2010 to 2023, and he was a runner-up in 2017, but his recent form has dipped following a strong start to the season. Kim is playing on his local course and has five top 20 finishes in his last eight tournaments.

The rest of the field is led by Adam Scott and Alex Noren who are both available at 25/1. Noren has some strong stats coming into Thursday and he leads the Tour in Scrambling. Sungjae Im and Min Woo Lee are both listed at 28/1. Im arrives in Texas in good touch following a win in South Korea. Other players to mention in this section include Byeong-Hun An and Tom Kim at 30/1 and Stephan Jaeger at 33/1. Jaeger is a recent winner on the PGA Tour while An tied for 14th here 12 months ago.

The underdog section is led this week by Thomas Detry, Tom Hoge and Keith Mitchell who are all available at best industry odds of 40/1 in places. Hoge is in good form and has scored 69 or better in nine of his last ten rounds on this course. Detry is also attracting interest and his power off the tee could be a factor here.

Mackenzie Hughes and Adam Schenk are next at 45/1, followed by K.H. Lee and Patrick Rodgers at 50/1. There will be obvious interest in Lee as the two-time winner in 2021 and 2022. He finished in a tie for 50th last year but he is a likely contender this time.

There is some interest in Seamus Power at a top price of 60/1. He has a good record in this event and is finally rediscovering the form that made him a PGA Tour winner in 2021 and 2022. Other names to mention include Mark Hubbard at 66/1, Doug Ghim at 70/1, Ryan Fox at 80/1, Charley Hoffman at 100/1 and Justin Lower at 100/1.

Our CJ Cup Byron Nelson Preview’s Course & Betting Trends with Predictions & Picks

The CJ Cup Byron Nelson is played at the TPC Craig Ranch Course at McKinney, Texas. It is a par 71 but there is some advantage for the power hitters in places as it comes in at 7,414 yards.

Distance off the tee is useful, but the key stat in recent editions has been Strokes Gained: Tee to Green. Accurate approach play is essential and on a course where low scoring is to be expected, it could all come down to a battle with the putter.

Along with Jason Day and K.H. Lee, Sergio Garcia also landed two titles in the last 20 years, so multiple champions are relatively common.

In 2024, one name that stands out for us is that of Jordan Spieth, who may come good in a field lacking some of the big names. So our betting predictions and picks for this 2024 renewal of the CJ Cup Byron Nelson golf tournament preview are:

  • Jordan Spieth to win at +1600 (16/1) with Bovada or BetOnline.
  • Top 10 Finish Picks (all odds with BetOnline, who are biggest odds on these players): Jordan Spieth (+225), Stephan Jaeger (+350), Tom Hoge (+350) and K.H. Lee (+500).
