Farmers Insurance Open 2024 Odds, Betting Preview, Predictions & Picks: Morikawa The Play

Collin MorikawaThe PGA Tour closes out the first month of the New Year in San Diego. A full field of 156 players descends on the historic Torrey Pines Golf Club for the 2024 edition of the Farmers Insurance Open.

One man not in contention is Nick Dunlap, the amateur who made history by winning the American Express on Sunday. He has withdrawn from the field, but there is some good quality at the top of the market as we look for winning picks with this golf preview and its betting predictions.

Xander Schauffele was our outright tip last week, and he gave us a good run for our money, eventually finishing in a tie for third. Ahead of the Farmers Insurance Open 2024, Schauffele is now the favorite at best industry odds of 10/1. Xander was one of five runners up behind Patrick Reed in 2021 and he tied for seventh when the US Open was held at Torrey Pines in the same year.

It is tight at the top with Patrick Cantlay next at a top price of 11/1, followed by Max Homa and Collin Morikawa who are both listed at best odds of 12/1. Homa is the defending Farmers Insurance Open Champion, having edged out Keegan Bradley by two strokes 12 months ago. In contrast, Cantlay has a poor record in this tournament, and he returns to Torrey Pines for the first time in five years. Morikawa finished in a solo third behind Homa and Bradley last year, while ranking strongly for key stats.

Behind the four men at the top of the market, Sungjae Im and Ludvig Aberg head the others at top prices of 22/1. Aberg was the breakthrough PGA star last season, while Im has finished inside the top ten in each of the previous two editions of this event.

Next up are Jason Day and Tony Finau at 25/1, followed by Keegan Bradley and Min Woo Lee at 28/1. Bradley secured that solo second behind Max Homa last year and he also slots into second place in this week’s Power Rankings. With three top five finishes in the Farmers Open, he is one to watch. Jason Day is a two-time winner of this tournament. The Australian lifted the trophy in 2015 and 2018, so he clearly likes the set up.

Next up come Sanith Theegala and Sepp Straka, quoted at 33/1. Both golfers have decent records in this tournament, with Theegala recording a tied fourth last year.

The outside bunch in the betting lines with the online USA sports gambling outlets are headed this week by Eric Cole at a top price of 40/1. Cole was one of our top ten picks last time out, and he stayed in contention for the first three days. We then have a gap to Harris English, Adrian Meronk and Nicolai Hojgaard, who are all available at 55/1 in places.  Both Meronk and Hojgaard showed good form in Dubai last week, while English was a runner-up behind Jason Day in 2015. Justin Rose and Will Zalatoris follow at 66/1 and both players have fond memories of the Farmers Insurance Open. Rose was the tournament champion in 2019, while Zalatoris lost out in a playoff to Luke List two years ago. Other names to mention before we move on include 2022 winner Luke List at 80/1, Ryan Fox at 80/1, Billy Horschel at 100/1, Taylor Montgomery at 100/1 and Matt Wallace at 150/1.

Our Farmers Insurance Open 2024 Course & Betting Trends with Predictions & Picks for this Preview

For the second week in succession, multiple courses are in play. Two locations at Torrey Pines Golf Club are in use, with players alternating between the North and South Course. Both are par 72, but the South is much longer at 7,765 yards as opposed to the North’s 7,258.

Golfers need to cash in on the South course, which is easier for scoring. A year ago the scoring average on the North course was over par at 73.623. Both will offer an advantage for distance hitters, but the use of two locations generally means that we are looking for a player with solid all-round stats.

Having come close with Xander Schauffele last week, there is a case for backing the same man now that he is the clear favorite in the betting odds. However, this preview is picking Collin Morikawa for the win. He is also showing good form and has a sound record in this event.

On his way to a solo third here last year, Morikawa led the field in par-5 scoring and fairways hit, while he finished second for greens in regulation. He has the game for these two courses, and is our outright pick. As well as Morikawa, we will add in a further three three top ten finish selections to complete the betting picks for this 2024 Farmers Open golf preview:

  • Collin Morikawa to win at +1000 (10/1) with Bovada, BetOnline and EveryGame.
  • Top 10 Finish Betting Picks: Morikawa, Min Woo Lee, Ludvig Aberg and Adrian Meronk.
