Houston Dynamo vs FC Dallas MLS Game Predictions, Betting Picks & Preview: Fruity Urruti

Maximiliano UrrutiHouston Dynamo entertain FC Dallas at BBVA Compass Stadium on Saturday (8.30pm ET). They will look to bounce back after a string of weak results, while the visitors will also be looking to improve having lost each of their last two. Can either get the desired result? Hopefully this MLS match preview will reveal all the answers with our predictions and picks.

It has not been going well for the Houston Dynamo, who arrive here off the back of four straight losses, while they are without a victory since May. That means that Saturday’s hosts have gone no less than 13 Major League Soccer matches without walking off the field as winners. Given the swiftness with which head coaches are dismissed these days, it is something of a surprise that Tab Ramos, who has been in charge at BBVA Compass Stadium since 2019, hasn’t been fired yet.

The hosts aren’t the only ones moving in the wrong direction at present. FC Dallas, who’ve made the postseason in each of the last three campaigns, have been struggling too, losing each of their last three, though they’ve won far more recently than Houston. Strangely, Dallas’ bad results of late have come at home. On their travels, they’ve got their act together a bit, avoiding defeat in each of their last two.

Better at home

Fortunately, though their form has been abysmal, the Dynamo have produced their best work at home, where somewhat surprisingly given their lack of wins in the last couple of months, they’ve only lost once all season.

Their loss to Colorado Rapids recently was the first home defeat of the season for Houston Dynamo, who’ve secured some reasonably solid results when surrounded by their own fans, beating the likes of Sporting Kansas City, and avoiding defeat against both LAFC and Real Salt Lake. They are far from the biggest scorers, notching ten goals in eight games, but they have restricted their opponents to a similar amount, conceding only eight times on home soil.

Travelling troubles

As touched on above, FC Dallas has started to deliver a few decent results on the road, beating Sporting Kansas City recently and tying (1-1) with Seattle Sounders when last in action away from home. Those results aren’t to be ignored, especially since they came against the two top teams in the division. Overall, Dallas have found it very tough to get going on their travels, losing seven out of nine, conceding a whopping 17 goals in the process.

Previous encounter

This won’t be the first time that the pair have faced off this season. Back in May, they played out a 1-1 draw at Toyota Stadium in Dallas. Neither side really dominated that fixture, while both were able to create chances. Dallas produced 1.4 expected goals, while Houston created 1.5 xG, which suggest that they both should fancy themselves to make headway in Saturday’s game.

Goals for both on the cards

From a betting point of view, ‘Both Teams to Score’ stands out as the best option ahead of this fixture. It’s true that Houston haven’t exactly been the most forthcoming of sides in terms of goals for or against at home, but they do have a habit of both notching and conceding at least once. The hosts have scored in all but one of their eight matches at home, while they’ve conceded in six of those eight. What’s more, only once have they produced an expected goals figure of less than 1.1 at home, while they’ve conceded a figure of at least 1.1 in every game played at BBVA Compass Stadium this season.

The Dallas boys haven’t found goals easy to come by away from home this term, but they do arrive at this junction having scored away against both Seattle and SKC recently, which should give them confidence. Moreover, they showed that they had what it took to both create and score against Houston’s rear-guard earlier in the campaign. Unfortunately for them (and fortunately for BTTS bettors), they’ve offered almost zero resistance at the back, conceding in 100% of their travelling fixtures in Major League Soccer this season.

At the end of the day, with the pair, in their respective home and away matches, surrendering a combined average of 3.16 expected goals, a play on ‘Both Teams to Score’ is worthwhile at the current prices.

Argentine to find the net

If player props are your thing, then a bet on Maximiliano Urruti is hard to resist this weekend. Against a very weak Dallas backline, the Argentine striker appears to have a gilt-edged opportunity to add to his tally, which currently stands at six. It has been a while since the forward found the net, but he spent some time out with injury, and he gained valuable minutes off the bench last time out.

If he’s ready to go from the outset on Saturday, then the man who averages 3.56 shots per 90 in MLS this season, is fancied to return to the scoresheet against a visiting side that is yet to keep the opposition out on the road.

So USA Betting concludes this MLS game preview with these predictions and betting picks:

  • Both teams to score @ -129 with MyBookie or the almost identical -130 with Bovada.
  • Maximiliano Urruti to score at any time @ +205 with Bovada or Intertops.
