Jamaica vs USA Preview, Betting Picks & Predictions: USMNT To Dominate

Ricardo PepiThe USA look to keep themselves in pole position in World Cup CONCACAF qualifying on Tuesday (5pm ET), as they take on Jamaica away from home. In contrast, the hosts have little to play for at Independence Park.

It looks like it could be one-way traffic, but will it be? Read on for our USMNT vs Jamaica preview with betting predictions and picks.

Team USA & the Reggae Boyz’ recent form

USMNT arrive here in hot form having won two on the bounce, recording what is always a confidence-boosting win against the Mexicans last time out. That win propelled Greg Berhalter’s men to the top of the CONCACAF qualification pile, which is where they will stay should they pick up a win here.

As for the hosts, well, they’re not in such a favorable position. Poor form early on in the second stage of qualifying has left Theodore Whitmore’s men in a place from which they can not qualify, though their recent form hasn’t been too bad, even if it’s a case of too little, too late. Tuesday’s hosts are unbeaten in three, while they’ve lost just one of their last five. Unfortunately, that defeat came at the hands of the Stars and Stripes.

Lack of goals costly

For the Jamaicans, when push comes to shove against the teams that really matter at this level, the goals tend to dry up. Yes, they found the net against El Salvador last time out, and yes, they scored twice en route to what was a pleasing away-day win in Honduras prior to that. They are now without a goal in two at home, misfiring against both Canada and Panama. The Reggae Boyz have scored just two goals in their last four on home soil, notching in just one out of four.

Moreover, their scoring record against the best teams in qualifying leaves plenty to be desired. In three games against Mexico, USA and Canada, Jamaica have scored just one goal. Ahead of a game against the side with the best defensive record in the division, such form doesn’t exactly bode well.

Up and down on the road

Team USA have been just about the best in the business as far as World Cup CONCACAF qualification goes, but much of their success can be attributed to strong home form. On the road, things have been a little less convincing. They have won one, tied one and lost one since the best eight teams headed for the final group. Against both El Salvador and Panama, USMNT underwhelmed, tying 0-0 and losing 1-0. On the other hand, they burst into life away against Honduras, scoring four goals en route to victory, and coach Berhalter will be hoping that his side can produce something similar here.

Familiar fixture for both

The USA and Jamaica have seen plenty of each other on the soccer pitch in 2021, meeting three times. Initially, they came together in March, when the US dominated from start to finish, winning by four goals to one. They followed that up with a 1-0 win against the Reggae Boyz four months later, while they continued their winning streak against Tuesday’s opponents last month, winning by two goals to nil. Seven one across 270 minutes suggests that this is the visitors’ fixture to lose. The only real saving grace for the hosts is that all three of those fixtures took place away from home. Can they produce better in front of a home crowd?

USMNT vs Jamaica: How to bet this fixture?

The Jamaicans will (and probably should thanks to some of the USA’s recent away results) fancy themselves to do better on their own patch, but the fact remains that there’s a gap in quality between the pair. The visitors come into this fixture as real hot favourites at -140, which is hard to argue with. Based on the three previous renewals of this fixture in 2021, Berhalter’s men ought to come out on top, and if taking short odds tickles your fancy, then you probably won’t be disappointed. However, for those seeking something a with a little more meat on the bone, ‘USA to win & under 2.5 Goals’, at odds of +220, catches the eye.

We know that the Jamaicans have struggled massively when it comes to making an offensive impression against both the US and the other top teams in qualifying, but they have at least restricted teams on occasions. In their most recent game against Tuesday’s visitors, Whitmore’s men kept things respectable, limiting the opposition to just two goals, while they recently kept a clean sheet against the Canadians, again showing that they can dig in. A lack of attacking power is likely to be their undoing here, but don’t be surprised if the hosts avoid a heavy beating. After all, less than three goals have been scored in each of Jamaica’s last five in qualifying, while ‘Under 2.5 Goals’ has yielded a profit in two of the USA’s three on the road.

Pepi to pounce again?

The latest in a seemingly ever-growing line of US talent, Ricardo Pepi is likely to be licking his lips ahead of this fixture. The 18-year-old has been a revelation since putting on the national team jersey, and although he arrives here without a goal in three for his country, he looks a good bet to notch. Scorer of three goals in five appearances for USMNT, his first two goals for the USA came when this pair met back in October, so this must go down as a great opportunity for the teenage sensation to get back on the scoresheet. So these are the predictions and betting picks for this soccer World Cup qualifier game preview:
