Travelers Championship Odds Guide, Preview, Predictions, Betting Picks: Cantlay Can

Patrick CantlayFollowing a thrilling end to the US Open on Sunday night, the PGA Tour continues with the last of its signature events. The Travelers Championship 2024 sees another strong field assemble at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, and it should be another entertaining tournament. It’s a small, high quality field with no cut, so all golfers will be in contention across the four days.

We enjoyed a great week at the US Open ourselves, with outright selection Bryson DeChambeau delivering at +2200 (22/1). Bryson plus Patrick Cantlay and Tony Finau also gave us profits in the top 10 finish markets. We hope you were on and we will look to find you more winners with this Travelers Championship preview and its betting predictions and picks.

It was no surprise to see Rory McIlroy withdraw from this event, following his horror show on Sunday. His absence leaves Scottie Scheffler clear at the top of the outright betting with the online USA sportsbooks at best industry odds of 4/1. Scheffler struggled at the US Open on a tougher course, but his overall form makes him the obvious market leader.

The closest challenger to Scottie is world number two Xander Schauffele who follows at a top price of 8/1. Schauffele won the Travelers Championship in 2022 and is arguably in the form of his life coming into Thursday.

A gap follows to the chasers who are led by Collin Morikawa and Ludvig Aberg who are listed at 14/1 in places. Aberg impressed after two rounds last week before falling away on the treacherous Pinehurst course. Morikawa has been a consistent threat in recent tournaments and has rediscovered the form that made him a multiple major winner.

Viktor Hovland and Patrick Cantlay are next at 20/1, followed by Hideki Matsuyama and Russell Henley at 28/1. Hovland missed the cut at the US Open, while Matsuyama finished inside the top ten.

Cantlay and Henley have good records at the Travelers Championship, and both should be considered this week.

Moving through the field, Tommy Fleetwood, Tony Finau and Sam Burns are all quoted at best odds of 33/1. Of the three, Burns may be the better option with six top 10 finishes this season. Other names to mention in this section of the bookies’ odds include Sahith Theegala at 35/1 plus Corey Conners and Brian Harman at 40/1. Harman was a runner-up to Keegan Bradley last year and is third in the all-time earnings list at the Travelers Championship.

The outsiders section starts with several golfers at best odds of 50/1. Sungjae Im, Keegan Bradley, Sepp Straka and Justin Thomas are among those available at that figure. Bradley is the defending champion and was also a runner up behind Chez Reavie in 2019. Next are Tom Kim and Jordan Spieth at 55/1, while Shane Lowry, Adam Scott and Max Homa are at 66/1. Spieth won this event in 2017, while Lowry is on a good run which culminated in a one-under final round on Sunday.

Other underdogs to consider include Wyndham Clark at 70/1, Cameron Young at 70/1, Jason Day at 80/1, Akshay Bhatia at 90/1, Harris English at 90/1, Will Zalatoris at 100/1, Robert MacIntyre at 110/1 and Adam Hadwin at 125/1. That list includes another former champion, with Harris English winning this tournament in 2021.

Our Preview’s 2024 Travelers Championship Course & Betting Trends with Predictions & Picks Verdict

This event has been on the circuit since 1952 when it debuted as the Insurance City Open. The tournament has been played as the Travelers Championship since 2007 and its permanent home is the TPC River Highlands course in Cromwell, Connecticut.

It is a par 70, which comes in at less than 6,900 yards, and while the booming Bubba Watson won here three times, it is not a course where power hitting is an advantage. TPC River Highlands features Bluegrass rough up to four inches and small greens, so accuracy is desirable, but it is not the toughest test on Tour and scoring should be low.

Key stats in recent editions have included Strokes Gained: Putting, and Par 4 Scoring. Often it comes down to a battle on the greens. The winner is likely to be the man with the hottest putter.

It is another tough call and there is the suggestion that missing the cut at Pinehurst last week will be an advantage. It was a grueling four rounds and those who were out of contention may have been glad it was over.

One player who had a consistent four rounds last week was Patrick Cantlay and it is surprising that his price hasn’t shortened coming into Thursday. He tied for third on Sunday, and has a good record in this event with six top 15 finishes. Cantlay for the win is the main pick, along with some more top 10 suggestions, as we look for additional profits in Connecticut. So these are the betting predictions and picks for this 2024 Travelers Championship preview:

  • Patrick Cantlay to win at best odds of +2000 (20/1) with BetOnline.
  • Top 10 Finish Picks (odds from BetOnline who are longest on all selections as usual): Patrick Cantlay (+240), Russell Henley (+225), Sahith Theegala (+300) and Keegan Bradley (+350).
