Wells Fargo Championship 2024 Odds Guide, Predictions, Picks, Betting Preview

Wyndham ClarkThis week the tour travels to Quail Hollow for the 2024 edition of the Wells Fargo Championship and there should be four thrilling days in store. Most of the world’s top players are there, with some notable exceptions. Scottie Scheffler continues to take a break, while Ludvig Aberg’s late withdrawal opens the field up to an extent.

Rory McIlroy is a three-time winner of the Wells Fargo Championship with victories in 2010, 2015 and 2021. With that kind of record, it is no surprise that the Northern Irishman is favorite for the outright win at best industry odds of 15/2. Along with those three victories, Rory has another five top 10 finishes in this tournament, and he is a recent Tour winner in the Zurich Classic team event. Next is Xander Schauffele who is quoted at a top price of 9/1 in most places. Schauffele was the solo runner-up behind Wyndham Clark last year.

With Ludvig Aberg having withdrawn on Monday, the rest of the field is led by the defending champion. Wyndham Clark won by four shots 12 months ago and he is listed at a best of 16/1. Since then, he has won the US Open and is in good touch coming into this week’s defense.

Patrick Cantlay follows at 18/1, before a gap opens up to Max Homa and Collin Morikawa who are both available at 25/1. Of those names, Homa will likely attract the most interest as a two-time winner of this event but Cantlay and Morikawa are in better form coming into Thursday.

Elsewhere, Tommy Fleetwood, Viktor Hovland and Justin Thomas are all quoted at 28/1 in places. Thomas won the 2017 PGA Championship on this Quail Hollow course, while Fleetwood tied for fifth in this event last year. Others in this section of the betting include Sahith Theegala at 30/1, Matt Fitzpatrick at 33/1 and Tony Finau at 35/1. Fitzpatrick was one of three runners-up behind Max Homa here two years ago.

Heading up the underdogs this time are four players at 40/1, with Jordan Spieth, Will Zalatoris, Si Woo Kim and Byeong-Hun An all available at that figure. Spieth was in contention for some time last week and could be one to watch this time. Elsewhere, there is some interest in Alex Noren at his best odds of 50/1. The Swede finished in a solo third at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, and he ranks second on Tour for bogey avoidance.

This section includes additional former champions of the Wells Fargo. Brian Harman was the winner here in 2017 and he is quoted at best odds of 50/1. The 2018 winner Jason Day is also at 50/1, while Rickie Fowler lifted the trophy in 2012 and he is further back at 60/1. Other outsiders to look at include Akshay Bhatia at 50/1, Sam Burns at 55/1, Corey Conners at 60/1, Shane Lowry at 66/1, Lucas Glover at 80/1, Keegan Bradley at 80/1 and Adam Hadwin at 110/1.

Our Wells Fargo Championship 2024 Preview’s Course Info with Betting Predictions & Picks Verdict

The Wells Fargo Championship has been on the PGA Tour schedule since 2003. Most of its editions have been held at the Quail Hollow Golf and Country Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. It is a lengthy par 71 which measures at over 7,500 yards, so distance hitting can be rewarded.

Driving Accuracy and Scrambling have also been key stats in recent editions. The infamous three closing holes have been extended by around 20 yards, so the “Green Mile” will be even tougher this year.

Rory McIlroy and Max Homa show a recent trend for repeat winners, although they are the only multiple champions since the event started in 2003. Remember that there is no cut, so all players will remain in contention across the four days.

We feel that 2024 could produce another repeat winner. Wyndham Clark won by a clear four strokes last year and he has improved throughout the following 12 months. Clark is one of the only men who has threatened Scottie Scheffler’s dominance in recent weeks. He is capable of coming through again in this field.

So the golf predictions and picks for this 2024 Wells Fargo Championship betting preview are:
