Soccer’s overdue return produced some interesting results in the German Bundesliga last weekend and teams are now fully focused on the remainder of the season. The ‘ghost games’ as they were dubbed in the media were all played behind closed doors but while there may have been a lack of atmosphere, there was no absence of drama on the pitch.
Both Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund won last time out and, as sixth plays second, their encounter on Saturday (9.30am ET) should be one of the more entertaining matches of the upcoming weekend.
Wolfsburg vs Borussia Dortmund Moneyline Odds
Dortmund are closing in on the title while Wolfsburg are looking to hold on to a minor European place but despite their relatively close proximity in the table, our recommended American sportsbooks have pointed to a clear favorite. In the moneyline result market, Borussia Dortmund are clear and you can pick up Lucien Favre’s men at odds of around -128.
The draw is the next available option at a general +300 while victory for Wolfsburg rounds it off at around the +350 mark.
The unscheduled break did little to disturb Dortmund’s momentum as the title chasers demolished Schalke 4-0 last time out. Key players all found form and the team should push league leaders Bayern Munich all the way.
Wolfsburg edged past FC Augsburg by a 2-1 scoreline but the gulf in class between the two teams is likely to negate Dortmund’s loss of home advantage. Likely Prop Bets
Erling Haaland opened the scoring for Borussia Dortmund in that win over Schalke as the Norwegian continued his stunning campaign. Having started 2019/20 with Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga, Haaland has now scored 41 goals in 31 matches this season and that tally includes 13 in 12 for Dortmund.
Many of those early games in Germany started from the subs’ bench so it is no surprise to see Haaland as favorite to open the scoring against Wolfsburg. The Norwegian is available at around +300 while teammate Jadon Sancho is next up at +450.
Haaland got his side underway but the striker was eclipsed by Raphael Guerreiro who scored twice in that win. Guerreiro is a defender who can also play in left midfield and has a useful return of seven league goals this season, so he must be considered at a tempting +800.
Wolfsburg’s most dangerous player, according to the odds setters, is Dutch striker Wout Weghorst. The centre forward has a healthy return of 15 goals this season and is priced at around +500 to score the first goal.
At the other end of the pitch, Dortmund kept a clean sheet but they were playing a Schalke side who were enduring a dismal run in front of goal. In their last five matches, Wolfsburg have scored eight times and we think that ‘both teams to score’ is a more likely bet this week. BTTS is on offer at a general -175.
The ‘total goals’ markets always offer some value whenever free-scoring Dortmund are in town and for Saturday’s game away to Wolfsburg, you can go above the 2.5 line to get a modest return but we think we can be braver. Over 3.5 goals in this game is available at around the +140 mark and that’s a fair price when you consider Dortmund’s positive return to action last weekend.
Finally in this section of prop bets, if we were pushed to stake on a correct score, we would take Wolfsburg 1 Dortmund 3. It is one of the more likely options considering the respective form of these two sides and the bookies are showing prices of around +1100.

The one concern that we had when backing Dortmund last week was the break from competitive action but Favre’s men returned in style to brush aside a Schalke unit who were still battling for a Europa League place.
Saturday’s match at Wolfsburg may be tighter: It is doubtful whether home advantage will count for anything while games are being played behind closed doors but Dortmund’s next opponents are stronger and in much better form than Schalke.
An away win remains the most likely outcome so we can start with the moneyline bet at modest odds. For better value, Jadon Sancho to score first is a more tempting pick and, with the England international scoring 14 times in 24 league games this season, Sancho will surely be back on the scoresheet sometime soon.
